Have you tried a butterfly bolt? It has spring loaded "WINGS" that are threaded on the bolt. Drill a hole into the stud and slip wings through the hole, make sure wings are still threaded to bolt! Tighten and it should solve your problem. Sorry if it doesn’t.

We install a lot of LCD and others. First make sure you are on the center of the stud. Even the metal ones. Next, get a Lag Screw which is nearly the size of the hole in the LCD bracket, AND has threads that go all the way to the head of the screw. These screws will have a larger course thread, a larger head, and make sure you put a washer on it. Once you have found the center of the stud, drill a pilot hole with a drill bit, just smaller then the Lag Screw. This gives the Lag something to grab a hold of. If the hole is too small the screw won’t thread, if the hole is too large the screw will strip. We usually will go about 1/8 or 1/16th smaller then the diameter of the screw.

Once you have center, then a pilot hole, get your ratchet, never the drill, because you want to "feel" what is going on, then screw the bracket in. A good idea too is to get some "Loctite" and put it on the screw before screwing into the wall. This will keep the screw in place. Screw in once, through the bracket, don’t screw it in, then back it out, then put in the bracket. You want a one time, clean tight thread, with loctite, and through the bracket. Done.

When hanging a TV, go for overkill in support. Put a lag in every hole on the mount. Serious. The last thing you need is this TV falling down on one of the kids or something. NEVER, EVER, NEVER, do what we have seen and hang a TV on sheetrock only! I don’t care what fancy shmancy devices there are out there, use these for photos and crap, NOT a TV.

    mmmmm, LCD
