How does a TV Wall mount secure itself to the studs in the wall?

When I look at pictures of the TV wall mount brackets they look horizontal in shape. If the studs in the wall are verticle, how do you fasten the TV mount into the studs? The studs are only a couple of inches wide right? Are the holes in the wall mount in the middle of the bracket so they screw into the Stud? Its hard to tell in pictures.

you will have to find more then one stud i imagine. they are about 16 inches apart. the easiest way to find a stud is with a stud finder, but you can knock on the wall and where it doesn’t sound hollow there is a stud.

There is a vertical plate that you have to screw on the studs of your wall. The studs are normally 2X4, there is a meter that you can buy at Home depot for locating studs on the wall. If you haven’t done this, I recommend you get your wall mount installed by Best Buy. Hope this will help you out.
