if you are going to put a tv on the wall say in your bedroom then you need a bracket to put it on,these brackets are made for tv`s it is no use putting a wooden shelf up because it willpossibly fall down with weight of the tv that is why you need a bracket securly fixed on the wall

if you would like to have less space from a t.v. stand then its up to you. Personally i would like a t.v. in viewing vision from my eyes.
I don;t really want to look up or down and strain my neck just to watch t.v.
